While our Giving Factory is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, we have been thinking about how we can continue to provide essential items to those who need us most. We know that the need is more urgent now than ever and will only continue to grow.
We are excited to kick off a new pilot program— Pick, Pack, and Give Back! —to directly connect children to clothing, and we’re looking for help to make that happen. This is an innovative and exciting new opportunity for us to move urgently needed clothing directly to a child’s closet!
Right now, we are starting out small in partnership with EMPATH here in the Greater Boston area. Once children are identified, we will pair them with donors who are able to provide the gender and size of clothing they need. If the clothing is a match for one of our kids, we will need the donor to package the clothes, cover the cost for shipping, and send your donations directly to EMPATH at the address we will provide, and they will deliver the package directly to the kids!
If you would like to participate, check your closets to see if you can make one complete Outfit Pack (guidelines are online here). If you can provide at least one child in need with a complete Outfit Pack, please let us know by completing this online survey by this Friday, May 1. We are looking to serve children in need as quickly as we can, so please complete the survey as soon as possible! We have a high demand for all sizes from newborn to youth 18/20 (which translates to adult size Medium), but our biggest need right now is infant/toddler sized clothing.
We can’t guarantee that all prospective donors will be matched this time, but there will be more opportunities in the future.
If the online survey is filled out, we will be in touch by Wednesday, May 6 to let the prospective donor know if we have a child to pair them with. If we do, we ask that you send the package in the mail within 5 days. We know this turnaround time is quick, both for the initial survey and sending the package, but we are trying to set this new idea in motion as soon as possible to serve kids in need quickly and efficiently.
