DPW - Water Division Recognized by MassDEP

The Belmont Public Works (DPW) Water Division was recently recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) for outstanding performance in 2014 and 2015 as a public water system.  MassDEP stated, Belmont Water Division has achieved one of the top scores in the Consecutive Community Systems category of the 2015 Public Water Systems Awards Program.  There are 51 communities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that are classified as a “Consecutive Community System”  A “Consecutive Community System” is a system that purchases “Finished Potable” water from an outside source. ( Massachusetts Water Resource Authority)(MWRA)  The criteria that is used by MassDEP to determine award winners is compliance to all Federal and State drinking water regulations, Federal and State reports, water system capital improvements, hydrant flushing program, cross connection program, lead and copper sampling, employee training and employee safety .  

The first week of May is designated as "Drinking Water Week", this has been celebrated by the American Water Works Association and its members for more than 35 years.
