Belmont Water Receives Award for Outstanding Performance in 2014

The Belmont Department of Public Works Water Division has received an award from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) for its Outstanding Performance in 2014 as a Public Water System.  MassDEP has a long list of criteria that is considered when evaluating public water systems. Belmont scored high in all categories including compliance to all Federal and State drinking water regulations, Federal and State reports, water system capital improvements, hydrant flushing program, cross connection program, employee training, and employee safety.

In their selection MassDEP stated, “Belmont Water Division has achieved one of the top scores in the Consecutive Community Systems category of the 2015 Public Water Systems Awards Program.”  A “Consecutive Community System” is a category of 51 communities, including Belmont, that purchase “Finished Potable” water from an outside source such as the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).

The Water Division was officially recognized at a ceremony during “Drinking Water Week”.  For more than 35 years the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week  the first week of May.  It is a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
