The Belmont Fire Department offers a free and voluntary Home Safety Assessment to any resident that would like one. The Fire Department will assess your living environment for many common life safety hazards. This includes providing an assessment and advice on slip and fall hazards, working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, electrical hazards, home exit planning, kitchen fire safety, combustibles located too close to heating appliances, the File of Life (medical information card), key box access, as well as many other offerings.
The program is available to any resident, regardless of age. However, the Belmont Fire Department works closely with the Council on Aging (COA) to provide the very best array of services to our senior population. A representative from the COA can accompany a member of the Fire Department during a survey of a senior's home in order to share a whole host of resources and opportunities of which they may be unaware.
The Home Safety Surveys provide recommendations for the resident to consider and are always non-punitive and provided free of charge to reduce the risk of home accidents and fires in our community.
