Batteries

It is important to be aware of how to properly and safely dispose of batteries. The Belmont DPW has partnered with Call2Recycle to collect and recycle batteries. Batteries are collected at:  

  • DPW office, 19 Moore Street, 2nd floor. 

Below is a list of acceptable and unacceptable batteries:

Acceptable Batteries:

Rechargeable batteries: (Up to 11 lbs. & under 300 Watt-hours)

  • Lithium Ion (Li-ion) 
  • Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
  • Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb)
  • Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
  • Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)

Single-use Batteries:

  • Alkaline
  • Lithium Primary
  • Carbon Zinc
  • Button and Coin cell

Cellphones:

Cellphones of all types and ages are accepted. 

Unacceptable Batteries: 

  • No damaged or defective batteries
  • No batteries part of a recall
  • No wet-cell batteries (car batteries)
  • No batteries weighing over 11lbs.
  • No batteries or 300 watt-hours (such as those in electric scooters, electric bikes, outdoor power equipment, etc.)
