It is important to be aware of how to properly and safely dispose of batteries. The Belmont DPW has partnered with Call2Recycle to collect and recycle batteries. Batteries are collected at:
- DPW office, 19 Moore Street, 2nd floor.
Below is a list of acceptable and unacceptable batteries:
Acceptable Batteries:
Rechargeable batteries: (Up to 11 lbs. & under 300 Watt-hours)
- Lithium Ion (Li-ion)
- Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
- Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb)
- Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
- Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Single-use Batteries:
- Alkaline
- Lithium Primary
- Carbon Zinc
- Button and Coin cell
Cellphones:
Cellphones of all types and ages are accepted.
Unacceptable Batteries:
- No damaged or defective batteries
- No batteries part of a recall
- No wet-cell batteries (car batteries)
- No batteries weighing over 11lbs.
- No batteries or 300 watt-hours (such as those in electric scooters, electric bikes, outdoor power equipment, etc.)
