Trash Collection & Recycling

Curbside Recycling

Recycling Bins are collected every other week on your regular trash pick-up day.  Green Bins are collected during the weeks shaded in Green and Blue Bins are collected during the weeks shaded in Blue on the Collection Calendar. Place all bins at the curb by 7:00 am.

Recycling Bin Requirements

Recyclables shall be collected in fourteen (14), eighteen (18) gallon containers of the appropriate color for your designated area of town or thirty-two 32 gallon barrels marked with two (2) Recycle Stickers .  Additional or replacement containers of the appropriate size and color are available for purchase at the Public Works Office.  For more information please call (617) 993-2690.

Paper:  Should be placed in a brown paper bag beside bin.  Do not tie in bundles.

Include: Junk mail and mixed paper, cereal boxes, pasta boxes, snack boxes, newspapers with inserts, magazines, catalogs, soft cover books, spiral bound notebooks, telephone books, and insides of hardcover books.
Do NOT Include: plastic bags, strings, hard covers from books, soiled paper, food waste or trash.

Beverage Cartons, Spiral cans and Aseptic Boxes (juice, broth cartons etc.) of any size should be rinsed, flattened, and included in your recycling bins with other materials.  Milk cartons with plastic pour spouts are acceptable.
Include: Labels may stay on and you may flatten.

Corrugated Cardboard: Must be flattened, pieces cannot be larger than 3 feet by 3 feet in order to fit in the truck's slot allowance.  These can be included with other paper recycling in brown paper bags or tied with string in stacks less than 9 inches high.  Cardboard should be secured (such as placing it under your recycling bin) so it doesn't blow away.  Corrugated Cardboard should NOT be placed inside a cardboard box for recycling.


Should be rinsed and placed inside of your recycling bin.


Include: Containers labeled #1,#2,#3,#4,#5,#6 or #7. Plastic rings and covers may stay on.
Do NOT Include: Motor Oil or Chemical containers, plastic bags, styrofoam or any
unmarked plastic.

Glass Bottles / Jars:

Include: Glass bottles and jars with corks removed.  Labels and lids may stay on.
Do NOT Include: Broken or other glass such as light bulbs, window or auto glass, dishes, glasses, Pyrex or china.

Metal Cans and Lids, Clean Aluminum Foil and Tins:

Include: Labels may stay on and you may flatten.
Do NOT Include: Cans containing hazardous material, paint or aerosol.
