I hear concerns about potential contamination at the high school. What steps are being taken to investigate these concerns?

Belmont High School was completed in 1970, before current standards regarding use of materials in construction and environmental regulations were put in place. In anticipation of work inside the existing building and across the Belmont High School property, data will be obtained, studied and evaluated for environmental concerns that may impact design, construction, and future use of the project. For example, Belmont High School’s asbestos containing material survey will be updated so that it will be managed appropriately during construction, and the Belmont High School site will be investigated to evaluate whether the historical site usage may have any impact on a future Belmont High School. These studies will occur during the Schematic Design Phase so that any scope and costs related to these concerns will be factored into the project.
