Minutes of Meeting March 1, 2006

Present – Laura Simmons, Chair, Lucille Dressler, Lucia Gates, Martha Moore, Andres Rojas, and Tom Walsh, Tree Warden
Minutes of~January 2006 were read and accepted with a correction by the Tree Warden that Beech trees are not in as much danger from the winter moths as Maple trees and Blueberry bushes.
Tree Warden’s Report – Tom has written to the Selectmen informing them of potential serious damage to many trees this spring from the winter moths. He is not recommending wide spread treatment of bt and/or dormant oil. The moths are being treated in Nova Scotia with an imported parasite wasp.
On Regulations for Protection of Trees during building and/or construction, he has suggested creating a financial pool for the eventual replacement of trees; a report of previous years building permits from Community Development; that the Tree Warden be notified when street trees will be affected before the Building Permit is issued either by right or special permit.
Tree on Claflin Street parking lot behind Filenes will be replaced with an Amelanchia Leavis – The Garden Club will fund plantings on Concord Avenue and a Kousa Dogwood at Payson Park.
The Chairman passed out copies of the Shade Tree Report written for the Town Annual Report and Shade Tree Plans for the future.
Lucia Gates reported she and Nancy Forbes will help with the landscape for the Habitat House on Brighton St.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted – Lucille Dressler
