Minutes of Meeting of November 6, 2006

7:05 p.m. Meeting Called to Order
A discussion was held on issues related to the Viglirolo Skating Rink. These included the need for more publicity for the rink, monitoring the performance of the skateguards more carefully and the importance of checking memberships and collecting fees for day passes.
The request to switch ice time between the Belmont High School teams and Belmont Youth Hockey was again discussed. Following this discussion a decision was made to hold a vote as soon as possible since BHS practice is scheduled to begin on Nov. 27.
A vote was not held tonight because of the absence of two members of the Commission.
A discussion was held on the condition of the Underwood Pool. The Commission and the D.P.W. are both aware that significant surface area improvements will be needed before the start of the 2007 season. The D.P.W. is obtaining cost estimates for a resurfacing project. If this project cannot be done, then the plans will call for a major patching job before next year. We should have the cost estimates before the December 4th meeting.
A discussion was held on the senior center at Town Field. The Commission is hopeful that restroom facilities can be added as part of this project. These facilities would be available for residents using the playground areas. The Chairman has contacted the Board of Selectmen who are supportive of this issue.
The Commission is planning a brief holiday reception at the start of the December meeting. They are hopeful that former members of the Commission will attend for a presentation in their honor.
