Electricians coming to the Light Department for an electrical permit to install hard-wired smoke detectors or a fire-alarm system, are required to present a Permit to Proceed from the Fire Department. This is only issued by the Fire Department if the proper plans and Building permit application had been submitted to the Building Department and approved by the Fire Department, as required by the Building Code. Once that application is approved, the Fire Department will issue a Permit to Proceed, which would indicate that the Fire Department had reviewed all plans.
BMLD Electricial Permit Fee(s):
1-hard wired detector = $25
More than 1 detector = $40
Fire Alarm Systems = $20 application fee + $20 per $1,000 based on electrical contract value.
