Belmont Disability Access Commission
Meeting Minutes: 10 August 2006
Present: Celeste Andrade, Ray Glazier, Laurie Graham, Janet Macdonald, Carole Williams, Fran Williams (Associate). (A quorum was present.)
Guests: Joe Doyle, Video Producer, and his wife, Barbara Doyle
Absent: Kathy Allen, Joan Hantman, Patricia Livingstone, William Rodi (Associate)
The meeting was called to order in Conference Room 1 of the Belmont Town Hall at 7:20 PM.
Minutes of the May 18, 2006 meeting: Janet Macdonald made the motion to approve the minutes, and Laurie Graham seconded the motion; it was approved by unanimous voice vote.
BDAC Video Project: The BDAC Video, currently under development, was shown. Joe Doyle reported that the anticipated length is 30 minutes. He noted that there is still work to be done, including the fact that there is no music yet. The vignettes shown were:
" Belmont Town Hall 1990 - no wheelchair access
" Attempted theft at the home of a deaf woman
" Woman with a seeing eye dog getting service at a restaurant
" HP Parking issues at the Post Office
" A boy with autism and his mother in a toy store
" Town Hall Revisited in 2006 - wheelchair access now possible
After a review of suggested title, the title for the video was set as: EYE TO EYE ACCESS
Awareness, Attitudes, Architecture
Celeste Andrade made a motion to accept that title and Janet Macdonald seconded the motion. It was passed by unanimous voice vote.
There was discussion of the video and individual Commission members made suggestions based on their own knowledge and experience. Comments are to be compiled into a memo, to be presented to Joe Doyle.
Associate Members: Janet Macdonald made a motion that an associate member be authorized to act as a full member with voting privileges, if this would constitute a quorum not otherwise present. Carole Williams seconded the motion and it was carried by unanimous voice vote. Glazier to verify legality with Town Counsel.
Commission Membership: Ray Glazier reported that Bill Rodi did not request reappointment as Associate.
Meet Belmont: Laurie Graham reported that "Meet Belmont" event will be on August 29th '06 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm in the high school cafeteria.
Next Meeting: The Commission's next meeting was set for Thursday, September 21st 2006 at 7:30 pm.
Janet Macdonald made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 pm; Laurie Graham seconded the motion. The motion was carried by unanimous voice vote.
