Belmont Disability Access Commission
Meeting Minutes: 6 December 2005
Present: Celeste Andrade, Ray Glazier, Joan Hantman, Janet Macdonald. (A quorum was present.)
Absent: Kathy Allen, Laurie Graham, William Rodi (Associate) Carole Williams, Fran Williams (Associate)
The meeting was called to order in Conference Room 1 of the Belmont Town Hall at 7:05 PM.
Approval of minutes of November 8, 2005 meeting: Janet Macdonald made a motion to approve the minutes; Joan Hantman seconded the motion and it was carried by unanimous voice vote.
Belmont Disability Assistance Program: Joan Hantman will contact Laurie Graham about the new phone number and the status of the flyer.
Wellington Building Committee: Ray Glazier presented Laurie Graham’s report on the Wellington Building Committee meeting (November 10, 2005). Points noted in the report and, which were discussed by the Belmont Disability Access Commission included:
· The hallways will go from a width of 10 ft to a width of 8 ft.
· The series of ramps that were to be in the front entrance will be dispersed throughout the building, one in each wing and one in the foyer.
· Library which was next to the gym will probably be moved to the administrative area (Principal’s office); the Principal’s office will go next to the gym
· Discussion of potential DOE citation for having all LABBB classes in one area. This will be changed; K-1 class will go in the Orchard Street wing. The architect and Mark Haley did mention that classes are fluid at this point; they are focusing on school infrastructure.
· The committee will look at parking for Orchard Street so a HP/van spot can be included as well as an access ramp from the lot to the school.
· AC: most of the school will not have AC, but they are asking that ducts be put in for eventual AC installation.
Senior Center: Janet Macdonald reported that the architect is willing to accept input from the Belmont Disability Access Commission. She noted the development drawings will be ready in mid-January or early February.
BDAC Disability Speakers Bureau: Celeste Andrade reported that no work on this project has been done since the last meeting. Ray Glazier suggested the responsibility be maintained.
Town Hall Complex: Ray Glazier reported that there are still unresolved issues: water leaks, climate control, interface between the door locks and the door opener are examples.
BDAC Video Project: Steve Rourke did not respond to the BDAC memo; Emily Abt did. The BDAC subcommittee has not yet prepared the RFP. Work will start with Joe Doyle next year.
Belmont ADA Consent Agreement: Ray Glazier asked Kathy Allen to draft a letter to Tom Younger and the Selectmen.
The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at 7:30pm.
Joan Hantman made a motion to adjourn at 8:05 PM; Janet Macdonald seconded the motion. It was carried by unanimous voice vote.
