Town Meeting Members whose term expires in 2010 have been sent a form to indicate a desire to appear as a candidate for re-election on the April 5, 2010 ballot. This form must be returned to the Town Clerk's office by 4:00 p.m. February 8, 2010.

Nomination papers for the annual town election to be held April 5th are available at the Town Clerk's office. Signed nomination papers are due back to the Town Clerk by February 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.. See "Running for Elected Office" for more details.

The Town Clerk acts as the Town's chief election official, recording officer, registrar of vital records and statistics, public records officer and licensing officer and is the general informant to Belmont's inhabitants.

In addition, examples of items issued from the Town Clerk's office include:

                Antiques, Auctioneer, Class I and Class II Automobile, Common Victualler, Junk, Livery                  Service, Lodging House, Movie Theater and Taxi

        State Hunting & Fishing Licenses
        Fuel Storage Permits.  

Election-related Activities Include: Voter Registration, Voting Lists, Ballot Preparation, Certification of Nomination Papers and Initiative Petitions, Annual Town Census, Resident Book, List of Residents to the Office of the Jury Commissioner.

Upon election or appointment to an Town office, board, commission or committee, the individual must be administered the oath of office (be sworn in to serve) at the Town Clerk's Office prior to participating in a meeting requiring a vote. At that time, the State's Open Meeting Law is distributed or referred by on-line access.

The Town Clerk is elected for renewable three year terms and receives a salary, the amount of which is voted at the Annual Town Meeting.
